Precaution you may take to secure your server from hackers
- Change your root password for strong and secure one
- Update your php script ( wordpress specially )
- Use free scanning tool like LMD ( Linux Malware Detection )
- Do not run script with 777 permission
- Make sure your CMS are the latest version (Joomla, wordpress, etc)
- Change SSH port
- Have strong password
- Use SSH key to connect to your server
