Why are proxy and VPN services not allowed in Algiers?
Algiers servers may not run tunnelling services without explicit authorisation from the Algerian authorities. The servers are intended for hosting websites, portals, business applications and databases. Running proxy or VPN software without authorisation will lead to suspension of the service. Secure remote administration of your own server, over SSH or Remote Desktop, is of course fully supported. If your project requires a VPN endpoint in North Africa or the Mediterranean, contact support and we will suggest a suitable alternative location.
Is HDD storage fast enough for my project?
For most Algerian websites, portals and business applications, yes. Hard-disk storage offers large capacity at a low price, and with enough memory for caching, websites and databases perform well. HDD is particularly suitable for document archives, e-learning materials, media libraries and backups, where capacity matters more than millisecond response times. If your application is very database-intensive, such as a large online store, allocate generous memory for caching and consider a CDN for images to keep pages fast. Most Algerian portals never notice the difference.
Can universities host an e-learning platform in Algiers?
Yes. Algerian universities and training centres increasingly run Moodle and similar platforms for students across the country. A plan with 200 to 500 GB of storage leaves room for course materials, assignments and recorded lectures, and unmetered bandwidth means heavy download periods before exams do not generate extra charges. Choose enough memory for peak periods, such as enrolment and exam weeks, and keep regular backups of student records. Hosting locally keeps the platform quick for students on domestic networks. Students in the Sahara wilayas benefit most.
Can I host an Arabic and French bilingual website?
Yes. Many Algerian organisations publish in Arabic, French and sometimes Tamazight or English. Arabic, French and Tamazight editions can live together on one Algiers instance, tagged so search engines serve each correctly. UTF-8, the default on our images, handles Arabic script, French accents and Tifinagh characters correctly. Right-to-left rendering is a theme matter, not a server one. Tamazight content in Latin or Tifinagh script is equally supported, which matters for Kabyle and other Amazigh-language publishers. Keep the versions in sync.
Can I run Windows-based accounting or ERP software?
Yes. Algiers plans run the listed Windows editions at Linux prices. Payroll and ERP packages used by Algerian companies are often Windows-only, and staff in several wilayas can reach them by RDP. That keeps data on a secure server rather than individual computers. Size RAM for your users and keep a nightly backup of the company file. Verify VM licensing with each vendor. Branch offices in Oran and Constantine connect as easily as the head office. Data stays safe from office power cuts.
Will Algerian banks, e-government portals and ad platforms treat my server as local?
Generally, yes. The Algiers range is registered in Algeria, and the major geolocation databases place its addresses in the capital, so services that check a visitor's country will see a domestic connection. That matters when you test integrations with Algerian online services, run advertising aimed at specific wilayas or want search engines to associate your site with Algeria. Freshly assigned addresses can take a few days to settle in every database. Report lasting errors and we will request a fix.
How much storage should I choose?
Plans range from 60 GB to 500 GB of HDD storage. A company website or small portal fits comfortably in 60 GB, including the operating system. Online shops with many images and business applications with years of data suit 100 to 200 GB. E-learning platforms, media libraries and document archives benefit from the larger plans with up to 500 GB. If you run low on space later, upgrading adds storage to your existing server without migration, keeping your data and IP address in place.
Can I host an online shop for Algerian customers with cash-on-delivery?
Yes. Many Algerian online shops still rely on cash on delivery, with card payments through CIB and Edahabia cards growing steadily. WooCommerce, PrestaShop and custom platforms handle cash-on-delivery orders out of the box, and local payment gateways offer integrations for card payments where available. Hosting in Algiers keeps product pages and order forms quick for customers in Oran, Constantine and the south, where mobile connections dominate. Choose enough memory for caching, since HDD storage benefits from it, and send order confirmations by SMS or WhatsApp to reduce refused deliveries.
