Why does the AMD EPYC platform matter for my VPS?
AMD EPYC processors offer many cores, large caches and fast memory, which translates into strong performance for both single-threaded and parallel workloads. PHP and Node.js applications respond quickly, databases handle more concurrent queries, and tasks such as image processing or code compilation finish sooner. Because each Budapest VPS has reserved vCPU cores on these processors, you receive consistent performance rather than a share of whatever is left over. For CPU-intensive projects, the difference compared with older Xeon-based hosting can be noticeable, especially under sustained load during busy periods.
Can I get a 10 Gbps port in Budapest?
Yes. The standard port on every plan is 1 Gbps shared, and 10 Gbps connectivity is available for workloads that need it, such as video streaming, large backup transfers or software distribution. Tell us roughly how much data you expect to push and we will quote the upgrade. Traffic remains unlimited at either speed. Most Hungarian sites never come close to filling a gigabit link, so watch the traffic graphs for a few weeks before paying for ten. Upgrades of the port do not change your IP address.
Will Hungarian characters work correctly in my website and database?
Yes. Hungarian's double-acute letters, ő and ű, trip up older character sets, but our Budapest images default to UTF-8 and show them properly. Give each new database the utf8mb4 set and hungarian collation so names sort in proper order. If you migrate an older website that used ISO-8859-2, convert the data to UTF-8 during the move. Internationalised domain names with Hungarian characters are supported through the standard punycode system. Converting an old ISO-8859-2 site during migration is straightforward with iconv or a database export in the right encoding, and it saves you from fixing broken letters later.
Can I host a webshop that uses Hungarian payment gateways?
Yes. Local gateways such as SimplePay and Barion offer ready-made modules for the common shop engines, and they install on a Budapest server like on any other host. Local hosting keeps payment callbacks and order confirmations fast, which reduces abandoned carts. A mid-tier plan covers a typical Hungarian store. Make sure to keep your shop software updated and restrict administrative access, since the server is unmanaged and security inside the VM is your responsibility. Hosting in Budapest keeps the round trip to the gateway short, so payment confirmations reach the shop almost instantly. Keep plugins patched and limit admin logins, because the security of an unmanaged server rests with you.
How do I add IPv6 or extra IPv4 addresses?
Ask for IPv6 in a ticket; extra IPv4 addresses from the Budapest block can be bought at checkout or added later, as long as the pool has free space. Once assigned, you configure them in your operating system's network settings; our documentation explains the process for common distributions and Windows. Extra IPv4 addresses are useful for dedicated SSL sites, mail servers with their own reputation or multiple services on standard ports. We will also point each address's PTR record wherever you need.
Is there protection against DDoS attacks?
Yes. Network-level DDoS filtering is included with every Budapest plan. It detects and discards common volumetric floods upstream, before they reach your server, so your port is not saturated and legitimate traffic continues to flow. Floods of fake page requests that look like real shoppers are harder to spot at network level, so pair the filtering with Nginx rate limits or a caching reverse proxy. If you experience an attack that seems to bypass the filtering, open a ticket and our engineers will investigate with the network team.
Can I use my Budapest VPS for software development and CI?
Yes. Reserved EPYC cores and NVMe storage make Budapest plans well suited to build servers, CI runners and staging environments. GitLab Runner, Jenkins, Drone and GitHub Actions self-hosted runners all run normally under KVM, and Docker is fully supported. Many Hungarian software houses use a VPS for staging and client previews, keeping production elsewhere. For heavy builds, choose a plan with more cores and memory; upgrading later keeps your configuration, so you can start small and scale as your team grows.
What happens if hardware fails on the host?
Hardware on the host is monitored continuously, and our engineers replace failed components as quickly as possible at no cost to you. Disks are mirrored, so one dead drive costs nothing. If a more serious fault affects the host, your server is restored as soon as the hardware is repaired or migrated. For complete protection, keep regular backups of important data in a separate location, since the service is unmanaged and backups inside your VM remain your responsibility. We notify affected customers by email during any incident.
