Can I use ANAF's SPV from abroad through the desktop?
Yes. The Spațiul Privat Virtual opens in the Craiova session, and you can log in with your SPV username and password plus a code, or with a qualified digital certificate. Many Romanians abroad registered for SPV online and now use it to receive tax decisions, submit the Declarația Unică for income from Romanian rentals or foreign salaries, and download fiscal certificates needed for property sales or loans. Using a stable Romanian connection avoids some of the login difficulties people report from foreign networks, and keeping all ANAF documents in one folder on the desktop makes it easier to answer requests from the tax office promptly.
Does the desktop help with e-Factura for my company?
Yes. Companies install their invoicing or accounting software, such as SAGA, SmartBill, Oblio or WinMentor, on the desktop and connect it to ANAF's e-Factura system using a qualified digital certificate. Keeping this on an always-on Romanian machine means invoices are transmitted within the legal deadline even when the owner travels or staff work from home. Accountants serving several clients can store each client's settings and certificates in separate Windows accounts. For multiple simultaneous users, choose a larger configuration with Windows Server and adequate Remote Desktop licensing.
Can I pay local taxes and fines on Ghișeul.ro?
Yes. Ghișeul.ro, the national platform for paying local taxes, fines and fees, opens in the desktop's browser, and you can pay with a card issued in Romania or abroad. Romanians in the diaspora often use it to pay property tax on a home in their hometown, car tax and fines, avoiding penalties for late payment. Combined with internet banking from a Romanian connection, the desktop makes it simple to keep obligations up to date without asking relatives for help. Keep payment receipts on the desktop for proof.
Will my qualified digital signature token work remotely?
Most qualified signature tokens from Romanian providers such as certSIGN, DigiSign, Trans Sped or AlfaSign are USB devices. Enable smart card redirection in the Remote Desktop client, install the token drivers on the desktop, and the token plugged into your local computer will be available for signing PDFs and authenticating to ANAF. Cloud signatures that confirm through a phone app also work. If a particular driver causes trouble, our support team can help you configure it. Annual certificate renewals with the provider can likewise be completed from the session, so the signature never lapses while you are abroad.
Which Romanian banks can I reach from Craiova?
Internet banking from Banca Transilvania, BCR (George), BRD, ING Romania, Raiffeisen, CEC Bank and UniCredit Romania works from the desktop's browser. Payments are approved in each bank's app or with an SMS code, so security stays on your phone. Romanians abroad use the desktop to pay mortgages, send money to family, and manage savings in lei, and the stable Romanian session means fewer interruptions from fraud checks than logging in from a foreign network. Revolut and ING Romania customers who split their money between euro and lei accounts can manage both views from the same desktop, and payments of utilities for parents in Romania can be arranged through the banks' direct debit services in a few clicks.
Is the desktop good for Romanian IT contractors?
Yes. Developers and testers billing foreign clients through a PFA or micro-company use the desktop as a dependable workstation with IDEs, VPNs and communication tools, while NVMe storage keeps builds fast. Because the machine runs in a data centre, power outages or connection drops at home do not interrupt long builds or deployments. Many also keep their own invoices and SAGA bookkeeping on the same desktop, separate from client work through different folders or user accounts. Remember that clients may have rules about where their code and data are stored, so confirm these before moving work onto the desktop.
Can I type ș and ț correctly?
Yes. The Romanian (Standard) layout in Windows produces the correct comma-below ș and ț characters required in official documents, rather than the older cedilla forms. Once added, it sits in the language bar ready for use. Italian, Spanish and German layouts can be added for family members or colleagues living abroad. The interface can be set to Romanian per user, and regional settings show lei amounts and Romanian date formats. Spell checking in Word for Romanian catches missing diacritics, which official bodies increasingly expect in correspondence. These settings persist between sessions on every device you connect from.
Why is the desktop in Craiova rather than Bucharest?
Craiova offers reliable data centre infrastructure with strong fibre connections to Bucharest and the national backbone, at lower cost than the capital. For remote desktop use, the difference in latency is negligible, and the IP address is Romanian in every respect, so Romanian banks and ANAF treat it as local. Craiova's location in the south-west also gives short routes to Serbia and Bulgaria for teams working across the region. Customers in Oltenia and the Banat get particularly short routes, and the rest of the country is only a few milliseconds further away over Romania's well-developed fibre networks.
