Can I use Egyptian internet banking from the Gulf through the desktop?
Yes. Web banking from Banque Misr, the National Bank of Egypt, CIB, QNB Alahli, Banque du Caire and others opens in the Cairo session, and the Egyptian IP makes it appear as a local connection. Most banks send OTPs to your registered Egyptian mobile number or use app approvals, so keep your Egyptian SIM active on roaming or switch to app-based confirmation. Egyptians in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait commonly use the desktop to check balances, pay credit cards, manage certificates of deposit and send InstaPay transfers to family. Never share OTP codes, even with relatives.
Can my company connect to the ETA e-invoicing system from the desktop?
Yes. Install your ERP or accounting software and the e-invoice integration or signer tool on the Cairo desktop, and configure your e-signature token. Enable smart card redirection in the Remote Desktop client if the token is plugged into a local computer, or use a token installed on a dedicated setup as your provider recommends. Running integration on an always-on Egyptian machine ensures invoices are submitted on time, even when office power or internet fails. Accountants can have their own Windows logins, and the larger plans support several concurrent users.
Can I access Digital Egypt services from abroad?
Many Digital Egypt services, such as requesting birth certificates, national ID-related documents and traffic services, can be started online, and the Cairo desktop provides an Egyptian connection to do so. Some services require delivery to an Egyptian address or in-person collection, so check requirements for each one. Egyptians abroad often use the desktop to prepare requests that a family member then collects, and to keep scanned documents organised in one folder for future procedures. Authorisations (tawkeel) prepared at a consulate abroad can be scanned and kept on the desktop alongside the requests they relate to.
Why do the Cairo plans include so much SSD storage?
Egyptian customers often run ERP systems, accounting databases and document archives that grow quickly, especially with e-invoice records that must be kept for years. The Cairo plans therefore include between 100 GB and 400 GB of SSD storage, considerably more than many remote desktops. This allows companies to keep invoices, scanned documents and backups on the same machine as their software. Combined with unmetered traffic, it makes uploading archives and syncing backups easy. Tax rules generally require companies to retain invoice records for several years, so the space quickly proves its worth.
Is traffic really unmetered on Egyptian desktops?
Yes. Traffic on all Cairo plans is never counted or capped, and there are no overage charges. You can upload documents, download software and sync backups as often as needed. Our terms prohibit spam and attacks, but normal personal and business use is welcome regardless of volume. This is particularly useful for companies that exchange large files with partners or keep offsite copies of their ERP data. Firms that send nightly copies of their Odoo or SQL databases to a second location find this especially convenient, since a growing archive never pushes them into a higher bill or a throttled connection.
Is the desktop useful for Egyptian freelancers and call centres?
Yes. Developers, designers and customer support agents serving clients in the Gulf, Europe and the US use the Cairo desktop as a reliable workstation, unaffected by home power cuts or unstable broadband. Client tools, VPNs and softphones install with Administrator rights. Call centres can host several agents on the eight-core plans with Windows Server, keeping client data on controlled infrastructure. Freelancers in Alexandria or Mansoura who lose power during summer peaks can reconnect from a phone and continue client work immediately, which protects their ratings on platforms like Upwork and Mostaql. Teams in Smart Village and New Cairo use the same approach to give remote agents a consistent workspace.
Can I work in Arabic on the Cairo desktop?
Yes. Switching the session to Arabic flips menus and documents to right-to-left, and the Arabic (101) keyboard sits alongside English for quick toggling. Each user on a Server desktop can choose their own language, so Arabic- and English-speaking staff can share a machine. Office supports Arabic text, and regional settings can show Egyptian pounds and both Gregorian and Hijri dates where needed. Egyptian Arabic numerals or Western digits can be chosen in regional settings, and fonts such as Arial and Tahoma render Arabic text clearly in invoices and letters.
Which plan should an Egyptian working abroad choose?
For banking, InstaPay, government portals and occasional documents, the two-core plan with 2 GB and 100 GB of SSD is sufficient. If you also manage a family business or rental property in Egypt and want Office and accounting tools open together, the four-core plan with 4 GB gives more comfort. You can upgrade at any time while keeping your Egyptian IP and files. Prepaying several months avoids interruptions if your Gulf card changes when you switch employers. A sibling in Egypt can be given a second login.
